COMETS

Since the discovery of this comet by amateur astronomers, Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp, interest in space phenomena has tantalized the imaginations of many. During the spring appearance of the comet people from around the world were able to see it for themselves and were also treated to an array of photographs. One of the most outstanding photographs of the comet was captured in March 1997 by Alaskan photographer Cary Anderson. Anderson was able to catch images of the comet as the northern lights (aurora borealis) played in the foreground above Alaska's Chugach Mountains.
